Walt Disney and the Kidnapping of an American Official

June 14, 1959 was a remarkable day in Disneyland history. On this historical day, the highly anticipated expansion of Tomorrowland was ceremonially opened. Three blockbuster attractions (in fact, the first “E-Ticket” attractions) debuted, including Matterhorn Bobsleds, Submarine Voyage, and the Disneyland Monorail.

To celebrate the event, Walt invited a high ranking U.S. government official to cut the ribbon for the Monorail, and to commission the eight new submarines. What happened next is the stuff of Disney legend. Just ahead of the Monorail ceremony, Walt and his trusted engineer Bob Gurr “kidnapped” this official, without their military escort, to go for a ride around the park in Walt’s newest space-age toy.

For this trivia question – can you tell me who Walt “kidnapped” using his brand new Monorail?
