Here are the answers to this Critter Country trivia question.

Question: Prior to being named Critter Country in 1988, by what other two names has this area of Disneyland been known?

Answers: Indian Village (1956-1971) and Bear Country (1972-1988)

The Indian Village section of Frontierland was a showcase of Native American culture, including the arts and architecture of several Native American regions, a multi-tribal dance show, and the attraction Indian War Canoes.

Indian Village was renamed Bear Country in 1972, with Country Bear Jamboree as the area’s signature attraction. The Country Bear Jamboree was closed in 2001 and replaced by The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh. Indian War Canoes was renamed Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes.

Bear Country was renamed Critter Country in 1988, in anticipation of the opening of Splash Mountain in 1989. The area maintained Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes, giving the canoes the distinction of being the only single-location ride to be in three different lands over the years (not counting the Disneyland Railroad, which is located in multiple lands by virtue of having multiple stations.)

The area has been lovingly known as Critter Country until…now. The land is currently closed and under reimagining. It will reopen November 15, 2024 as Bayou Country, complete with the reimagined flume attraction Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
