Ok folks, we are now eight episodes into WandaVision, out of nine total episodes for the series, and there are lots of questions yet to be answered. This show is one of the best pieces of storytelling from Marvel to date – maybe even better than any of the films! I won’t dive deep into the storyline, because if you are reading this article, then you are a fan of the show, and you have likely seen all the episodes to date.  There are interim spoilers ahead, so if you aren’t caught up through episode eight, I suggest you pause here and don’t read any further until you are caught up.

Ok, so one of the biggest unanswered questions heading towards the series’ final episode has less to do with the storyline, and more to do with who may be making a surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). And by “who” I mean which actor, more so than which character.

So go with me here on a wild theory that involves one of my favorite people in the whole world – Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke.

Over the course of WandaVision, and through outside reading, interviews, and reports, we’ve come to learn several things:

1- Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, has gone on record saying that the end of WandaVision will be epic, and that he had a chance to work with an actor he’s long admired and wanted to work with.

2- The creative team behind WandaVision met with Dick Van Dyke while developing the show, for inspiration on how to perform the early 1950s and 1960s style sitcom episodes.

3- We now know, as of Episode 8, how Wanda treasured her family’s collection of classic sitcoms, but mostly The Dick Van Dyke Show, as demonstrated by her father protecting her favorites by hiding them in the special secure hole in the wall. And we got an extended peek at one of those episodes during the look back to Wanda’s childhood.

You see where I’m going with this? My theory (maybe more of a wish or dream) is that Dick Van Dyke will take a step into the MCU, outside of the fourth wall of the Dick Van Dyke Show.

With the new Vision – Director Hayward’s sentient weapon – “awakening”, Wanda may need to do some emotional persuasion to put her heart and soul back into him – needing to marry his body outside Westview, to his soul which still resides inside the hex.

I have a hunch she may need to realize one or more of her idealistic comforts during this time, maybe in a short/cerebral conversation scene, and if so, we may witness one of the ultimate Disney Legends come to life in the MCU.

I know it’s a wild theory, and like most of our theories it is very far-fetched, but on March 5th I’m watching episode nine with a box of tissues just in case…

One post-note here: a prevailing theory regarding Paul Bettany’s tease about an actor is that he is trolling us all, and that he himself is the actor he has long admired and wanted to work with. Since we expect to see both versions of Vision in the final episode, this theory does have some merit. We will know for sure on March 5th! Who do you expect to show up in the final episode?

Update (spoiler): It wasn’t Dick Van Dyke (insert sad face emoji).
