Jolly day Everyone!

Today’s trivia question takes us back to Cherry Tree Lane, home to one of my favorite Disney families – the Banks family and, for a short time, Mary Poppins.

Mary Poppins is chock full of fascinating characters of all ages – it’s part of the enduring charm of the film. We all know Julie Andrews as Mary, and Dick Van Dyke as Bert, along with several supporting cast members. But there is one smaller role credited to a mysterious actor, and this is the subject of today’s question.

Can you tell me what role in the film was credited to Navckid Keyd?

And the answer is:

Mr. Dawes Sr. – The eldest statesman of the Fidelity Fiduciary Bank was so old he was barely able to stand up and walk. At the end of the film, when Mr. Banks told him the old “wooden leg” joke, he literally died laughing. The part of Mr. Dawes, Sr. was played by Navkcid Keyd.

Don’t know who Navckid Keyd is?

Try unscrambling the letters in the name.

Navckid Keyd is none other than Disney Legend Dick Van Dyke!

In a 2018 interview conducted as part of the promotion for Mary Poppins Returns, Van Dyke admitted that he had to plead with Walt Disney to let him play the second role in the film.

“I had to go to Walt and ask him for the part. He wouldn’t give it to me,” Van Dyke explained. “I said, ‘I’ll do it for nothing.’ Actually, I had to give him $4,000 — I paid him to do the part…and I’d do it again.”

Dick Van Dyke, you’re one in a million!
