Happy 40th Birthday to EPCOT – the most progressive Disney Park in the world!
In Walt Disney’s dream, EPCOT Center – or Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow – was to be an actual functioning city, set in a progressive future. This community would have incorporated advanced concepts in transportation, industry, living arrangements, and work/life balance. Of course, Walt’s EPCOT Center never came to be, but the spirit of his vision was captured by his team of dreamers and Imagineers some sixteen years after his death.
The place Walt envisioned to be a planned community became a World’s Fair-style showcase of innovative concepts (Future World) and cultural representation (World Showcase). Like the World’s Fair, guests at EPCOT Center were able to wander through a myriad of technological demonstrations and taste a bit of heritage from around the world.
In the earliest days of EPCOT Center, the Future World portion of the park contained seven pavilions (plus a certain favorite park icon attraction). A seventh pavilion was added in the late 1980s. Remember how those classic pavilions each had their own distinct logo? Take this quiz and find out how well you can match up the classic Epcot logos to the pavilions they represent (or in some cases – used to represent)?
